Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Collaboration: A Clear Path for Therapists Referring Clients
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) works best when it is both clinically and relationally supported. If you are a therapist referring a client—or you’d like to collaborate with us on KAP—our goal is to make the process clear, efficient, and easy to coordinate, while keeping the client’s safety and continuity of care at the center.
Collaboration can look different depending on your preference, your scope, and what the client needs most. In some cases, we provide medical evaluation, clearance, and in-office dosing support while you remain the primary therapist providing ongoing psychotherapy. In other cases, we provide clearance plus structured preparation and integration, and—when the client signs consent—share continuity notes so the full care team stays aligned. We can also take a shared approach, where prep and integration are divided between your work and ours in a way that supports consistency without duplicating effort.
A typical KAP flow starts with a behavioral health intake to assess fit, goals, readiness, and the anticipated number of dosing sessions. From there, we complete medical screening and clearance to confirm safety and eligibility. Clients then move into preparation sessions, where we build intentions, coping tools, and change language so the experience is held within a meaningful, supportive framework. Dosing sessions occur in-office with medical monitoring, and are followed by integration support focused on meaning-making, behavior change, and translating insights into day-to-day life—often alongside ongoing therapy.
On our side, we provide medical oversight and safety monitoring throughout the process. We offer structured preparation and integration support when appropriate, and we prioritize clear communication about scheduling, readiness, aftercare, and what to expect next. When the client has signed a release of information, we can also provide continuity notes to support coordination and reduce fragmentation of care.
If you are the primary therapist, your role typically includes ongoing psychotherapy, integration work, and continued goal tracking over time. With client consent, we also welcome any relevant clinical context that supports safe, effective care—such as treatment history, risk considerations, and potential contraindications—so we can collaborate responsibly and stay aligned with the client’s broader plan.
KAP tends to be a strong fit for clients who are stable enough for outpatient care, willing to engage in preparation and integration, and able to put a support plan in place for after sessions. It also works best when clients are open to a structured, collaborative process—where the medication experience is treated as one component of a larger therapeutic plan, not a standalone intervention.
Communication is a key part of that structure. With signed consent, we can share dosing and session dates as appropriate, general response and themes (rather than psychotherapy transcripts), and safety or care-coordination notes when clinically relevant. The intent is to keep you informed in a way that supports continuity and clinical decision-making, while respecting the boundaries and roles of each provider.
